10th Annual Artist Studio Tour - Scroll down for information
July 29 - 31 and August 5 - 7, 10AM - 5PM!

Please join us August 10 for a special presentation by:
Sandy Allie, Sculptor of the Human Figure
"The clay sketch from live model - How to come prepared for the short pose".

Wednesday, August 10, 6:00 to 8:00pm at the
South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. This presentation is sure to intrigue, inform, and inspire everyone who attends!

Sandy Allie: I am a sculptor of the human figure. Clay studies and drawings from life are the basis to my work as well as observation and understanding of humanity. I began studying Art History and Studio Arts in 1987 at Lake Tahoe Community College after retiring from the business world and soon found my passion in sculpture.

My preference is to work from life whenever possible. While working with the model I attempt to bring out qualities that make this individual special. Characteristics like crooked fingers on weathered hands or the graceful contour of a fleshy hip are what I might emphasize or even exaggerate as they are clues that help tell the story. Often the personality of the sculpture comes from the energy the model brings to the work. And then later, long after the he or she has left the studio, the sculpture and I become free to begin our own dialogue and I am free to sculpt my response to the pose and how it makes me feel. At some point a transition occurs when the sculpture takes on its own personality. This is wonderful and exciting as it becomes my challenge to discover what the sculpture wants to say and then allow the medium to direct my hands. I feel the sculpture is finished only when it conveys a soul of its own.
